Junior Teachers for Daily 5

Kate & Casey getting ready to be Junior Teachers during Daily 5.
The 1-3 Kids are doing an amazing job during Daily 5.  That time needs to be very quiet so I can work with small groups, but I don't want it to be filled with mundane "busy work".  The kids have astounded me with setting individual goals for what they want to learn and accomplish.  They seem to enjoy the ownership they have on how to use that time!  I am very excited to begin reading groups this week.

This week our literacy lessons will be a lot about Autumn, Apples and Johnny Appleseed.  We will read fiction and non-fiction texts and discuss some key elements of each.  We continue to work hard on writing complete sentences in Grammar and on sequencing stories.

In science, we will continue to work with thermometers and do some science experiments with different temperatures of water.  In math, we will begin Unit 2.  Please refer to the Parent Letter Home Link sent home last week on topics for this unit.  We will begin using our calculators soon.  If you chose not to purchase a calculator because your child will be using an older sibling's, PLEASE SEND IN THE CALCULATOR THIS WEEK.  If you ordered one, I will be distributing them by Friday.  Kids will keep calculators at school.

*** Later this week I will be sending home usernames and passwords for Everyday Math Online and Raz-Kids Reading.  An explanation letter for both of these opportunities will be included with your child's password information.

Now… enjoy some recess and math games pictures from last week!:
