Flight Home!

Flying home from Japan, "first class".  We were sad to see our journey come to an end!

We were sad to see our Japan unit come to an end!  I hope your child could articulate to you some of the things we learned about this wonderful culture.  Here's a snapshot of what's coming up in 1-3:

Reading:  Reading groups are going strong!  Each group meets with me almost everyday, so look for regular book bag homework.  We will be learning about inventions and inventors.  We will also be doing a lot of generating questions about our reading.

Writing:  PERSUASIVE.  This is a difficult unit!  We learn that you first state your opinion.  Then you give reasons and/or examples for WHY you have that opinion.  Finally you bring your paper to a close by restating your opinion.  We will end this writing unit with a Book Review about each child's favorite book!

Science:  Collecting and Examining Life is our next unit.  We will study brine shrimp, crickets and fish.  Then we will move onto plants.  The kids will learn how to use proscopes, they will measure crickets caught in individual bug jars, study diagrams of these animals, and culminate this unit with an animal research project.  We have an exciting way of displaying these projects with a "Poster Party" in the commons... more information to follow later.

Math:  Geometry.  And of course, lots of review on time and money.  Geometry test will be the week of April 12.

Enjoy some pictures from the 1-3 kids!:
