Last week was only four days, but we were very busy! We started our How-to Writing by sequencing the steps (First, Next, Then, Finally) for how-to make a candy corn craft. These are proudly displayed in the hall, so take a look at them on Open House night! Later this week we will stretch our four steps to six and eventually up to twelve. We will learn that the words "Then" and "Next" are used several times back and forth in a how-to story. Our next whole-class how-to writing will be "How-to Make a Bald Eagle Puppet" which is part of our new Social Studies unit on Symbols of the United States.
Your child will bring home information this Friday about their individual how-to writing assignment.
In science, we have continued to talk about CLOUDS. I will be excited to see if your child can teach you about the 5 types of clouds we have learned! I admit… I relearn this every year as I teach them, so don't feel bad if they seem to know more than you! Later this week we will do a PRECIPITATION project. We also will go on a Fall Nature Walk. We will look at some leaves from this area and observe their similarities and differences and see if we can identify trees they may have come from. We will then take a little break from Science as we focus on Social Studies and Symbols of the United States.
Unit 3 Math started today with patterning. Unit 2 math tests will come home tomorrow. Please feel free to visit the Everyday Math Online site if you'd like more information about Unit 3, other than what was included in the Parent Letter sent home last week. Here are some pictures from our Friday Math Games Day. Thanks Olivia, last week's photographer, for capturing these memories!

Guided Reading groups are in full swing now, so please make sure you check your child's blue bag for books. As I mentioned last week, one of the best ways to improve fluency is to reread, so some children are choosing to keep books in their bags to continue this practice.
I hope to see you all this Wednesday night, from 6:30-8:00 for Open House!
