Tye Dying!!

The 1-3 Kids…. it doesn't get any cuter than this!
We had a FANTASTIC day tye dying our T-shirts last Thursday!  THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL THE MOMS WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME TO HELP WITH THIS DAY.  The kids had a lot of fun, and the T-shirts and Christopher Columbus ships in bottles turned out adorable.

Tucker did a great job as Star Student!  Our Star Student has A LOT of jobs throughout the week, like taking care of attendance, being our messenger and being a substitute helper for every job.  Tucker was a huge help to me and all his 1-3 friends, so thank you Tucker!
Happy Birthday Tucker, Our Star Student!
Last week in Writing we swapped classes with all the other first grade students and shared our Autobiographies.  The kids were "nervous, shy and excited" about doing this.  One of the BEST ways to get better at reading is to read the same passages several times in a row.  We definitely did that while sharing our Autobiographies.  All the kids said it got easier each time they shared.  Our next writing unit will be on How-to Writing.  We will be doing a couple of examples in class together before trying this independently.  An informational letter and homework brainstorm will come home next week.

This week in Reading, we are focusing on Author's Purpose.  We learned today that an author usually has one of the following reasons for writing a story:  to Persuade us to think a certain way, to Inform us about something or to Entertain us…. It's easy as PIE!  We read a Time for Kids about author Jon Klassen and we learned how to use a "3-2-1" Graphic Organizer to summarize 3 new things we learned, 2 "ah-has" and 1 question we may still have.

In Math, our chapter 2 test is tomorrow…uugh.  Chapter 3 will begin next week.  A parent letter about concepts taught in Chapter 3 will be sent home later this week.

Next Wednesday night is our Open House from 6:30-8:00.  We will be busy this week getting prepared to "host" for you.  I hope you all can make it!  Enjoy some pictures from last week….
