Poem in Your Pocket

Happy ARTIST Day... Day 1 of our ABC Countdown!  Today we had a wonderful artist assembly from a famous poet, Bill Buczinsky.  Here are the 1-3 Kids' comments about our captured memories from this week:

Jack says, "Here he is teaching us about poetry, and he is doing a poetry 'ooogabaga ooogaba chant'."
Brooklyn says, "We are learning about different kinds of poems and crazy poems."
Elliott says, "There were helpers for the poet."
Swapping our poems from our pockets with Mrs. Brinati's 1-1 Kids.  Anna shares, "We are trading poems, like me and Abby are partners and I'm getting Abby's poems and she's getting mine.":

This week and coming up in 1-3...
Reading:  We began learning about sound and light in reading and science.  We are learning some big science words, like "complex", that we can use instead of an easier word, like "big".   Next week we will focus on the energy source SOUND.  We also learned about using a 3-2-1 organizer with our Time for Kids to reflect on our thinking.  Lila and Keira did a FANTASTIC job working as buddies on this.  Here are their 3-2-1s!

We also reflected and evaluated our effort and learning with our Daily Oral Language.  The kids were very truthful giving themselves a star or A+ only when they did their best work.  They gave themselves an OK or a checkmark if they noticed they needed to be a bit more careful.  This was a great learning experience for us all!  Some students wanted to share their self-corrected DOLs:

Jack says, "I really think I should give myself a checkmark and an OK because I had two mistakes."

Writing:  We continue to learn about persuasive writing.  We began our Book Reviews of our favorite books.  Next week we will turn our reviews into videos!!
