Halloween and Voting

Hope you had a Happy Halloween!
Thank you to all the parents who helped us have a fun Halloween Party!  The week was filled with…. surveying who likes pumpkin pie, Halloween crafts (all related to a reading or writing activity, of course :), seeing a "pumpkin tree" - that's actually a live tree!, writing our own how-to books, researching kinds of apples and extreme weather and researching more U.S. symbols!  We also have practiced a lot on telling time to the half-hour.  One of our favorite activities to practice this skill is the app "Jungle Time".  We are only on Level 2, but it gets harder!
Voting for Favorite Apples
This week we are focusing on Main Idea and Details in our reading stories.  We are also continuing our research on U.S. Symbols, with  a focus this week on the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell.  We learned all about the voting process on Tuesday and ran a mock election for our favorite kind of apples.  The 1-3 Kids overwhelmingly liked Granny Smith best!  This week also brings some end of the trimester skills checks… a sight word review test, a timed writing assessment and a science experiment with pennies and vinegar (to see why the Statue of Liberty, also made of copper, has turned green!).  Our Unit 3 math test will be in a couple of weeks.  We keep busy at school!  Here are some pics from last week.. enjoy!
Surveying who likes Pumpkin Pie.  The results were exactly half and half!

The Halloween Party!….

Dancing on Halloween :)
